Meghalaya CM in France to promote products from state

SHILLONG, Oct 22: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, who is in France participating at SIAL (Salon International de l�alimentation) Paris 2018, said the Meghalaya delegation is trying to explore the international market for products originating from the State.

Sangma, Agriculture Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh and other officials are on an extended tour to France and are also participating in SIAL, one of world�s biggest food innovation exhibitions.

The visit to SIAL comes in the wake of Meghalaya establishing its new Directorate of Food Processing to promote value addition of different agri-horti products, an official statement said.

�It is important to understand trends of the industry. We are here with our team of officials to engage with different companies and explore potential to market our products,� Sangma said.

He added that through this visit the State would be able to devise a strategy for innovative product start-ups.

�The world has realised the potential of India in food processing. However, it is important for us to learn from advanced nations and collaborate with industry for transfer of modern technology.�
