Meghalaya Cabinet approves formation of Farmers� Commission

SHILLONG, May 18 - The Meghalaya Cabinet has approved Meghalaya Farmers Empowerment Commission or Farmers� Commission to be constituted.

The Commission will act as a platform for farmers to submit their papers and programmes. It will also have discussions with experts on the subject of agriculture.

Informing about the Cabinet decision in Shillong on Thursday, Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong said that the resolution to have a Farmers Commission was mooted during the first ever �farmers parliament� which was held in the State last year.

Stating that rules will be in place for the Commission shortly, he added that most of the members of the Commission will be experts and farmers who will discuss issues and bring these to the State Government�s notice when required.
