Mechanised weaving project

NORTH GUWAHATI, April 1 � Governor JB Patnaik inaugurated the ambitious pilot project on mechanised weaving of muga silk established at Amingaon near here at the Export Promotion Industrial Park on March 23.

The director of IIT(G) Dr Gautam Boruah welcomed the Governor to the site of the project and felicitated him with a phulam gamosa. After formal inauguration of the ambitious project, the meeting was held at IIT(G) where the Governor offered his best wishes to Dulal Choudhury, innovator-cum-engineer of the project.

In his speech, he hoped that revolutionary changes in technique and production of the muga silk industry would be able to attract both national and international fora. The mechanised production replacing the present ongoing manual production would accelerate production to the expected level at comperatively low costs, the Governor observed.

It may be cited that the project is a joint initiative of NEDFi, Rutag-NE IIT(G).

Professor Sachin Kakoti of IIT(G) explained how they had constructed the allied machinery required for the project, which could not only reduce overall cost of the project, but also reduce the flight of capital to outside the region or even within the country.
