Mass plantation drive

GUWAHATI, June 4 � On the occasion of World Environment Day, the Department of Environment and Forests, Assam is organising a mass plantation drive at Hengerabari reserve forest from 10 am onwards in the presence of top government officials.

The programme will start at the Hengerabari Beat Office located behind Pratiksha Hospital on the VIP road. It is worth mentioning that after the formal inauguration of �Regenerating forest in hillocks of Guwahati city� on May 14 at Rani reserve forest by the Chief Minister, the Department of Environment and Forests has planned to raise 200 hectares of plantations with a target of five lakh saplings in different reserve forests located within the city during this rainy season.

On that day plantation activities will continue in Fatasil RF, Gotanagar RF and Rani RF.

On the occasion, a public meeting is also being organised by Assam State Zoo, District Legal Service Authority (Kamrup) and Help Earth within the campus of Assam State Zoo. It will involve school students in interactive workshop with experts within the Herbarium hall.
