IMPHAL, Oct 12 - The High Court of Manipur-appointed Administrator Jarnail Singh today assumed office at Manipur University here to discharge the functions of Vice Chancellor.
Speaking to media persons, the former Manipur Chief Secretary Jarnail Singh said that he would try his best for the welfare of the University. He said he would meet the University community immediately.
On his arrival at the Canchipur campus of the University this afternoon, he was warmly welcomed by the university community including representatives of the Manipur University Students Union, Manipur University Teachers Association and Manipur University Staff Association.
Leaders of the Manipur University community have expressed the hope that the court-appointed Administrator would do the needful to restore normalcy in the university.
Meanwhile, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) leaders, while welcoming the court order, has urged the State Government to release all the arrested students and faculty members of the Manipur University and also to complete the ongoing enquiry at the earliest.
K Ranjit, MLA, who is the spokesperson of the MPCC, felt that the issue of the university could have been resolved much earlier.
