IMPHAL, Jan 6 - Manipur Government has sought Central assistance of Rs 20 crore for relief operations in the quake-devastated State.
Manipur Chief Secretary O Nabakishore disclosed this while speaking to media persons during the Manipur Press Club Foundation Day at the Club premises here on Wednesday.
A powerful 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck Manipur and its neighbouring region on Monday morning which claimed eight lives and left 96 injured besides damaging 371 buildings and structures in the State, according to preliminary reports of State Relief and Disaster Management department today.
Nabakishore also informed that the State Government is planning to provide Rs 1 lakh as compensation for each household in hills and Rs 95,000 in valley areas.
He, however, said that the State authority is yet to get detailed district-wise assessment reports from the Deputy Commissioners of the State in connection with the earthquake.
He said that there is no report of any new casualty. The total loss of properties could only be established after the district administrations submitted their detailed reports. �I think the report will take some more days�, he added.
The Chief Secretary added that two teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) consisting 40 personnel were stationed at Noney and Nungba in Tamenglong district to assist the affected villagers.
Four officials of the NDRF will be coming on January 9 to assess the ground situation. A seven-member medical team from the Central Government has also air dashed here to assist the State medical teams.
He informed that the restoration work of Karong power sub-station will be completed soon. Power supply to Tamei, Kangpokpi and Leimakhong areas was stopped after a tower of the sub-station toppled during the quake.
