Manipur scribes stage protest rally

IMPHAL, Jan 7 � Holding placards reading �stop threatening Press and no more bombs�, scribes in Manipur today took to the streets of Imphal to protest frequent threats to the community.

Scribes under the banner of All Manipur Working Journalists� Union took part in the protest rally and converged at the premises of the Manipur Press Club.

Later, a 10-member AMWJU delegation called on the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and urged him to provide a conducive atmoshphere.

�The CM assured that he will look into the demands,� said a member of the delegation. The State Government has deployed armed security personnel at the media houses and Manipur Press Club premises after suspected militants delivered a hand grenade at the office of a vernacular Naharolgi Thoudang here on January 2.

Late last night, suspected militants attacked the office of The Sangai Express by lobbing a hand grenade. However, it failed to explode.
