Manipur saw 524 bandhs in 5 years

IMPHAL, July 26 � Manipur has witnessed 524 bandhs and 104 blockades in the last 15 years, from 1995 to 2010, causing a loss of Rs 2-3 crore per day due to bandhs and blockades on the highways connecting the State with the rest of the country.

Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh disclosed this while replying to a question by opposition leader O Joy of Manipur People�s Party in the State Assembly recently.

These bandhs and blockades have, Ibobi said, been called by numerous students� organisations, civil societies, political parties and even underground groups with demands ranging from �purely localised issues to political, religious, administrative and other such matters�.
