IMPHAL, Jan 11 - The Manipur Government is planning to set up a State guest house at Dwarka in New Delhi for the convenience of the people from the State visiting the national capital, particularly for medical treatment.

The proposed guest house will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 150 crore, said Chief Minister N Biren Singh while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a felicitation function at his official bungalow here today.

A plot measuring around one acre has been acquired for the project, he said, adding that there would be 20 rooms on the ground floor for patients and their attendants from the State.

The Chief Minister also informed that the Government would give branded uniforms and boots to the State police personnel. The distribution function will take place at the 1st Manipur Rifles Battalion soon.

Besides, the State is also going to organise felicitation programmes for cyclist Ronaldo, who became world number one in all sprinting events in the last UCI world rankings, and Meiraba Luwang, a top-ranking badminton player in the international arena.

The Chief Minister also felicitated bodybuilder Kh Bhaktakumar for receiving an award from Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh during a yoga event.

Congress hails SC order: The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee on Saturday welcomed the Supreme Court verdict on the mobile Internet shutdown in Jammu and Kashmir.

We welcome the verdict of the Supreme Court, said T Mangibabu, a key functionary of the MPCC, while addressing a press conference at Imphal.

The apex court on Friday said that the fundamental right to freedom of speech and expression and the right to carry on trade or business using the Internet are constitutionally protected. It came in the backdrop of the month-long Internet shutdown in Kashmir. Mangibabu expressed serious concern over imposition of prohibitory orders in Imphal West district.

It may be recalled that prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC were imposed in the whole of Imphal West district for two months starting December 21, 2019.

He said that though many agitations are taking place in the State, these are mostly non-violent.
