Manipur experiencing warmest days

IMPHAL, May 25 � Manipur has been experiencing the warmest days in the last one decade, with Friday recording a maximum of 35.9 degees Celsius.

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Imphal unit weather observers here also recorded a minimum of 18.8 degree Celsius on Friday.

Earlier, Meteorological Office (MET) at Tulihal airport complex near here claimed to have recorded the highest temperature of 35.6 degree Celsius on April 20 and again on April 21. The previous highest temperature of 34.4 degree Celsius was recorded in the State on April 27, 1979.

However, Imphal East district recorded a maximum of 35.59 degree Celsius at 12 noon on Friday, while Imphal West recorded 34.07 degree Celsius, according to the daily weather report of the Directorate of Environment.

According to former Officer in Charge of MET office, the highest maximum temperature recorded during the period 1952-1990 was 35.6 degree Celsius as per Climatological table at National Data Centre, Pune, on April 28, 1979.
