Manipur Excise collects Rs 4 cr in 6 months

IMPHAL, Oct 18 - Manipur Excise department has collected a sum of Rs 4.33 cr from excise duties and fines collected in 823 cases in the last six months (April-September 2015).

This was disclosed by Assistant Commissioner, Nodal Officer of Excise, Manipur K Joykumar Singh, on the sideline of destroying 1,556 litres of seized illicit liquor, here on Friday.

Manipur is a dry State and sale and consumption of liquor, including country brew, are banned since the implementation of Manipur Prohibition Act 1991. The department had collected revenue of around Rs 9.95 crore in the last financial year, Excise officials said.
