Manipur bars public movement across int�l border

IMPHAL, March 11 - The Manipur Government has prohibited movement of people across the international border, besides ordering closure of two border gates at Moreh, according to an official release.

The commercial town of Moreh is located about 110 km south of Imphal along the Indo-Myanmar border.

Special Secretary (Home) of Manipur Government H Gyan Prakash, in an official order issued on March 9, ordered closure of Gate Nos. 1 and 2 at Moreh and other entry points along the Manipur sector of the Indo-Myanmar border till further notice.

�The concerned authorities, including District Magistrate, Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), Assistant Commissioner/Imphal Customs Division, state police are instructed to take necessary action immediately including keeping the concerned gates closed,� the order said.

State Health Minister L Jayentakumar opened isolation wards at the Moreh Hospital and the Integrated Check Post, both located at Moreh, on Sunday.

Medical check points have been opened at more than five places including the Imphal International Airport as part of precautionary measures, the minister said.

So far, more than 1 lakh people, including air passengers, have been screened at entry points including Moreh, Behiang, Sinzawl, Tusom, Kamjong, Mao Gate, Jiribam and the Imphal airport.
