Main accused in ATM booth loot case held

IMPHAL, Dec 20 - In a breakthrough, a district police team in Manipur arrested the main accused in connection with an ATM booth looting case besides recovering the stolen money amounting to Rs 38,62,500, sources said.

The Senapati district police team under the supervision of Superintendent of Police K Kabib, Additional SP Khuplen Lolhouvum, SDPO Hemant Pandey, Officer in Charge Jonah Riamei, swung into action following the complain of looting ATM booth located at Hazungla house in Manipur�s Senapati district headquarters, about 60 km north of Imphal in between December 3 and 4 this year, and rounded up three suspects on December 7.

In the process, the main accused person Tuba Kuinamei of Tumuyon Khullen village in Senapati district was arrested on December 11 by the Senapati Police station team and recovered stolen money amounting to Rs 29,97,500 from his disclosure and another remaining amount of Rs 8,65,500 which was concealed by the accused and his associates, was recovered on December 16, source said.

The main accused identified as Tuba Kuinamei has been remanded in the police custody for 15 days after producing before a district judge on December 17 while the two other suspects have been released on bail, sources added.

�A case has been registered (under section 380/409/34 IPC) and investigation is also on,�a police source said. �Now the total stolen/missing amount Rs 38,62,500 has been recovered.� Efforts are being made to arrest two absconding accused persons in the said crime, source further said.
