GUWAHATI, May 21 - The wild elephant that had strayed out of the Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary and strolled through the GS Road here on May 1 last, revisited the city today. It was spotted in the Panjabari-Botahguli area early this morning as it moved on the main road. However, by afternoon, it was on a hill at Botahguli.

The Forest department is getting two kunkis from Sonapur to drive away the jumbo deep inside the forest. This will be done tomorrow morning, an official said.

With the possibility of rains at night, the elephant is unlikely to venture into the city till morning hours. Two teams of Forest officials are keeping a watch over the pachyderm. It has not harmed anyone.

The elephant has been nicknamed Maharaj by the residents of Panjabari, an area which it frequently visits.

On May 1 last, the jumbo, around 11-12 years of age, had to be tranquilised after it detoured lanes and bylanes, besides the GS Road. Later, it was taken in a truck and released inside the Amchang forest.
