Maharaas Jatra organised at Chamata

TIHU, Dec 19 - The religious festival of Sri Sri Maharaas Jatra was organised with a day-long programme under the aegis of Srimanta Kala Niketan, Chamata, and Sanskar Bharati, Asom, at Chamata HS School Auditorium Hall on December 16.

The programme started at around 8 am with the unfurling of the organisational flag by Ramesh Kumar Haloi, president of Srimanta Kala Niketan, followed by lighting of the ceremonial earthen lamp in front of the portrait of Bharat Janani at around 8:15 am.

Deputy Commissioner of Nalbari district, Sanjib Kumar Das, inaugurated the colourful cultural procession at around 9 am. The interaction and artists� felicitation programme started at 11 am which was graced by Dr Sangita Kakati Sarma, Professor of Krishna Kanta Handique Open University, Guwahati.

At 12 am, Dr Sanjib Kumar Goswami, HoD of English Department, Kamrup College, conducted the �open question� programme. A Krishna Nritya contest was also held at 1 pm followed by religious discourses which was attended by Hem Bhai Santi Sadhana Ashram, Guwahati and Sankar Das, an eminent critic. A cultural programme was also held at 6 pm.
