IMPHAL, Oct 23 - The Loktak Livelihood Mission was launched in Imphal on Tuesday, aimed at providing livelihood to the youths of the state.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh along with Minister for Agriculture V Hangkhanlian, Public Health Engineering Minister Losii Dikho, launched the programme at Ningthoukhong, in Imphal at a function held here.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister assured that the state government would take all possible steps in bringing development in the state. �We are targeting to provide employment through this mission,� he said.
In this context, he said that several areas, including Mayang Imphal, Bishnupur, Wangoi and Thanga have been identified for fish farming.
Explaining the advantages of organic fertilizers and vermicompost, he said that it would help boost the crop output. He added that Self-Help groups (SHGs) would be formed in the villages to prepare vermicompost and other organic fertilizers.
He informed that loans have been provided at subsidized rates to hundreds of young entrepreneurs of the state.
Minister for Consumers Affairs and Public Distribution Karam Shyam said that it is the primary duty of the people of the state to protect and preserve the Loktak Lake. Stressing on the Loktak Livelihood Mission, he appealed to the youths to take advantage of the scheme to become self reliant.
Chairman of Manipur Pollution Control Board L Radhakishore, Chairman PDA T Robindro, Deputy Speaker K Robindro, MLAs P Sharatchandra, H Dingo,Th Satyabrata, Additional Chief Secretary Dr Suhel Akhtar, DC Pawan Yadav and SP Sapam Hopson Bishnupur and others attended the function.
