TEZPUR, Jan 11 � Urging all concerned to play a positive role for the development of the common people, living in the North-East region, noted litterateur and retired administrative official hailing from Arunachal Pradesh, Yese Dorji Thongshi said that literature is only way to strengthen brotherhood among the people of the region. Thongshi who was the chief guest on the first day programme of the three-day-long 2nd annual conference of the Asomiya Sahitya Sanmilani which was held at Jaimati Pathar, said that Assamese literature comprises the entire gamut of poetry, novels, short stories, documents and other writings. It also includes popular ballads in the older forms of the language during its evolution to the contemporary form. The literary heritage of the Assamese language can be traced back to the 9-10th century in the Charyapada, where the earliest elements of the language can be discerned.
�Though geographical barriers differ us psychologically, we are always one and we have a close attachment. This has been possible only because of literature.� Thongshi said. The Arunachali literary icon, who is well-known among the Assamese people for his literary creations like, Mouna Uthar Hahi, Kho Kota Manuh said that there are many examples which inspire us to live together like the late Dr Bhupen Hazarika.
Earlier, the former president of the Asam Sahitya Sabha, Dr. Nagen Saikia while inaugurating the opening programme of the conference, said that hatred, violence, anger etc., can never be the source of creativity. Adoration creates affection. Hence, it is given more priority in the Indian literature. People find their inner image in the real art and culture. Therefore, though sometimes art and culture fail to fulfill practical needs, they can satisfy the mental cravings.
Stressing upon the creation of proper environment of creative literature by the new generation, the noted litterateur said that various organisations created in the name of art and literature cannot create literature. But it can inspire people to create literary environment. �One man is always alone during the time of his literary work. But at the same time he is a social person� he said. He is an impartial part of the good and bad of the society,� he said.
The occasion held under the presidentship of the working president of the ASS, Dilip Bora was attended by noted artiste, Durlav Bora, member of the ASS, Dr. Khargeswar Bhuyan among others.
