Lenien clinches double crown

GUWAHATI, Jan 22 - Assam girl Lenien Jamir bagged double crown in the SAI-AITA Super Series Tennis Tournament which concluded today at the All Assam Tennis Association complex here. She won both the singles and doubles title.

Lenien defeated her compatriot and top seed Raina Zaffar in straight sets 6-2, 6-4. In the doubles partnering with Raina, Lenien trounced Khushi Shah of Gujarat and Aishwarya Andalkar of Maharashtra also in straight sets 6-4, 6-1.

In the boys singles final top seed Sheikh Mohammad Iftikhar of Delhi outclassed Anurag Buragohain of Assam 6-3, 6-2.

In a brief prize distribution ceremony AATA secretary Ankush Dutta and treasurer Swapnil Borthakur gave away the prizes.

Final results: (Boys singles) Top seed Sheikh Md Iftikhar (Delhi) bt Anurag Buragohain (Assam) 6-3, 6-2. (Girls singles) 2nd seed Lenien Jamir (Assam) bt top seed Raina Zaffar (Assam) 6-2, 6-4. (Boys doubles) Udit Gogoi /Arith Bhuyan (Assam) bt 2nd seed Arka Ganguly/Abhishek Mangale (Maharashtra) 6-3, 7-6 (3). (Girls doubles) Top seed Lenien Jamir/ Raina Zaffar (Assam) bt 2nd seed Khushi Shah (Gujarat)/Aishwarya Andalkar (Maharashtra) 6-4, 6-1.
