Lakshya, Harsheel enter 4th round

GUWAHATI, Feb 13 - Almost all the seeded players marched into the next round on the second day of the 83rd Yonex Sunrise Senior National Badminton Championship at the Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium in the RG Baruah Sports Complex here today.

The 14th seed Lakshya Sen of Uttarakhand and Harsheel Dani continued their winning run to enter the fourth round of the men�s singles competition. Lakshya posted a 21-14, 21-13 win over Vipul Saini while Harsheel, who won Ghana International last year, trounced seventh seeded Balraj Kajla 21-14, 21-15. Now Lakshya will square off against Arintap Dasgupta in the next match, while Mumbai lad Harsheel will take on Kartikey in the next encounter.

Former champions Sourabh Verma and Rituparna Das also entered the fourth round. Sourabh faced a stiff challenge from eighth seed Jagadeesh K before winning 18-21, 21-11, 21-15. Now he will meet Munawer Mohammed next. Rituparna beat Saloni Kumari 21-14, 21-15 to set up a clash with Namita Pathania.

Others who made it to the 4th round are Arintap Dasgupta, Rahul Yadav C, Jaswanth D, Nikhilshyam Sriram, Alap Mishra, Priyanshu Rajawat, Aryamann Tandon, Mithun M, Kaushal Dharmamer, Munawer Mohammed, Rohit Yadav C and Pratul Joshi in men�s singles.

In women�s singles, Gayatri Gopichand, Riya Mookerjee, Malvika Bansod, Shikha Gautam, Vaidehi Choudhari, Aadya Variyath, Namita Pathania, Reshma Karthik, Vaishnavi Bhale, Neha Pandit, Bhavya Rishi, Shruti Mundada, Vrushali G, Deepali Gupta and Deepshikha Singh won their respective matches today.

Top shuttlers in city: The top shuttlers led by Saina Nehwal, Parupalli Kashyap and PV Sindhu, will begin their challenge from February 14. The top eight seeds in singles have been directly placed in the pre-quarterfinals while the top four seeds in doubles will start from the quarterfinals.
