Lakshminath�s Sambalpur house to be preserved

GUWAHATI, Sept 13 � Special measures have been taken for preservation of the residence of Lakshminath Bezbaruah at Sambalpur in Orissa, said Governor JB Patnaik today.

Addressing a function on the occasion of the 68th foundation day of the B Barooah College today, the Governor said that the college, set up in the name of Bholanath Barooah, has a rich history. He said that Barooah along with Bezbaruah had stayed in Orissa for a long time.

Patnaik pointed out that Bharat Ratna Gopinath Bordoloi was the first principal of the college, while, noted parliamentarian and writer Hem Baruah was the second principal. B Barooah College is still a centre of education and culture. The students of the college are also doing well in different examinations, he added.

The Governor said that India has always been in the forefront in education and zero, decimal system etc., were first used in India and then spread to other parts of the world. At one point of time, students from all over the world had flocked to India. Every student should try to take up the challenge of regaining the lost glory of India in the field of education, he added.

It may be mentioned that various quarters had been demanding proper preservation of Rasaraj�s residence in Sambalpur.
