Lakhimpur mourns Prof Taburam Taid�s demise

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, Aug 17 - The entire Lakhimpur district is in mourning as one of the most distinguished sons of its soil, Prof Taburam Taid passed away in Guwahati today. Eminent educationist, linguist, author and administrator Prof. Taid (77) died today in a private hospital in Guwahati.

Lakhimpur today mourned the demise of Prof. Taburam Taid who was born in Ghunasuti in North Lakhimpur in 1942.

As the news of his demise reached North Lakhimpur today, public mourning and condolences meetings took place across the town and its vicinity.

Schools and colleges held condolence meetings in honour of the departed soul. In his native Ghunasuti, a pall of gloom overshadowed the daily activities of the area and all educational institutes observed condolence meetings. According to the Mising Autonomous Council, the last rites of Prof Taid would be performed in Gogamukh with full state honours. His mortal remains would be flown to Lakhimpur by helicopter by the Assam government later today.
