Konthoujam goes to polls today

IMPHAL, Feb 13 � A total of 24,601 electorates including 12,476 females would excercise their rights to elect a new legislator from the Konthoujam Assembly constituency in Imphal West district tomorrow. The counting of votes will be held on February 17. The by-election to Konthoujam Assembly constituency has been necessitated following the demise of its sitting MLA and Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Dr Sapam Budhichandra in September last year. Two sections of Central paramilitary forces are to be deployed in all the 28 polling stations of the constituency. For the protection of the EVMs to be used in the by-election, Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur has written to the Election Commission of India for providing 60 sections of central para-military forces.
