Kokrajhar Govt HSS to play Subroto Cup

GUWAHATI, July 23 - Former champions Kokrajhar Government HS School qualified for the U-17 Subroto Cup Football Tournament representing Assam. The championship will be held in New Delhi, informed Deputy Director, Sports and Youth Welfare, Uday Kamal Chetia.

The Kokrajhar school emerged champions in the Deokon Memorial Football Tournament held at Barpeta. In the final yesterday, the Kokrajhar boys outplayed Tumpreng High School of West Karbi Anglong 3-0.

Barpeta DC Thaneswar Malakar, Satradhikar of Barpeta and Sundaridia Satras Ramen Sarma and ADC Bipul Saikia gave away the prizes. The championship was organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare among champion schools of all the districts.

Earlier, the Kokrajhar Government HS School won the Subroto Cup in the year 1986. It was for the first time that a school from Assam won the coveted trophy.
