Kendriya Vidyalaya gutted in Manipur

IMPHAL, May 8 � A major fire broke out in the Kendriya Vidyalaya at Lamphelpat here in the intervening night of May 7 and 8 destroying 70 per cent of the school building.

The fire which is believed to have broken out due to short circuit in the midnight, has completely reduced its office infrastructure to ashes.

However, the fire service department personnel managed to douse the fire around 4 am today, reports said.

The Kendriya Vidyalaya which was closed for the summer vacation was scheduled to re-open on May 16. But due to last night�s incident, it may postpone the re-opening.

Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh accompanied by Speaker Th Lokeshwor, Education Minister M Okendra and senior officials today inspected the School.

Ibobi assured that the government will extend necessary help in repairing and rebuilding the school infrastructure.
