GUWAHATI, April 8 � The 104th foundation day of the Kamarupa Anusandhana Samiti (KAS in short and Assam Research Society in English) was celebrated on the Samiti�s premises here on Tuesday, KAS sources said.
The KAS flag was hoisted on the occasion by its president Dr Nishipad Dev Choudhury. The function was attended by a number of KAS members and a group of students from the Department of History of the city�s Lalit Chandra Bharali College.
The celebration was followed by a meeting of the KAS executive committee, which was presided over by Dr Dev Choudhury. In the meeting, KAS secretary Dr Gajendra Adhikary read out the order passed by the Court of the Civil Judge No 2 of Kamrup (Metro) on January 27, 2015 in Misc (j) case No 661 of 2013 (TS No 367 of 2013) Nila Kanta Nath versus Dr Nishipad Dev Choudhury and others.
Nila Kanta Nath challenged the election of the KAS executive committee with Dr Nishipad Dev Choudhury as its president and prayed for an injunction against the said committee.
But the Court of Civil Judge No 2 dismissed the case stating �� there is no prima facie case for granting temporary injunction��.
The meeting expressed its gratefulness to Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi for a grant of Rs 50 lakh extended to the KAS for construction of a multi-storey building of the Samiti.
