Justice demanded for dead student

NAGAON, Feb 18 - Nagaon remained tense for the third day on Monday following the sensational suicide case of a Class X student by hanging from the roof of the school building of Nabarup Jatiya Vidyapith.

According to sources, hundreds of guardians as well as the people from the village of the deceased student including his mother and father on Monday morning thronged the main gate of the school and staged a strong protest for several hours against the incident.

During the protest, the guardians as well as the villagers shouted slogans against the school authority and demanded capital punishment to the accused in-charge principal of the school, Munindra Saikia.

Meanwhile, top officials of Nagaon police administration and ADC Jayanta Borah rushed to the spot and tried to bring the situation under control. ADC Jayanta Borah as well as the police officials promised the protesters that the victim family would definitely get justice and administration would conduct an inquiry into the entire incident. Besides, the administration concerned will proceed with lawful action against all those involved in the case.

Nagaon Police, on the other hand, in quest of the accused in-charge principal, launched a series of search operations at various locations in the district. But they have not been able to trace him till the filing of this report.

It may further be mentioned here that Nilutpal Bora, the local reporter of an all-India based news channel network was allegedly threatened with death by a gang of goons when he was in a live TV show to cover the protest at Nagaon Nabarup Jatiya Vidyapith. The gang allegedly broke his motorcycle there. Meanwhile, Nilutpal Bora has filed an FIR at Nagaon Sadar police station against the entire incident.

Meanwhile, seeking adequate justice into the incident, the farmers� organisation of the State, Krishak Sramik Unnayan Parishad registered a case with the Assam Human Rights Commission in Guwahati on Monday. The Parishad registered the case against the in-charge principal of the school, Munindra Saikia and two members of the school management authority � Prof Jibon Narah and Prof Kamal Chandra Saikia.

Moreover, the Nagaon anchalik unit of the All Assam Students� Union (AASU), the district unit of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) submitted two separate memorandums in connection with the suicide of the student inside a private educational institution during the school hours to the Deputy Commissioner, Nagaon and the Superintendent of Police, Nagaon respectively. Both the organisations sought justice to the bereaved family of the victim student and demanded to ensure security of the students in their educational institutions.
