UDALGURI, Nov 17 - A herd of wild jumbos damaged four dwelling houses of Buddhi Subedi, Bishnu Tahpaliya and Uma Devi at about 3.30 am today and created a havoc in the entire Shuklaikhuti village under Dimakuchi police station in Udalguri district.
Buddhi Subedi, one of the victims informed this correspondent that the herd which comprised not less than 12 elephants came to his campus and started damaging his dwelling houses probably in search of food. The victim somehow escaped along with his wife and children to get rid of reign of terror created by the wild elephants. He also informed that the same herd ransacked three other dwelling houses of Bishnu Tahapaliya and an IAY house owned by one Uma Devi of the village and broke down more than 50 betelnut trees of the villagers. Meanwhile, affected families have appealed to the district administration to visit the village which is at the Indo-Bhutan border of Udalguri district to assess the damages caused by the wild jumbos and take meaningful action to tackle the growing menace.
