Judima Festival from Jan 23

GUWAHATI, Jan 18 - The Youth Association for Development and Empowerment (YADEM), Haflong and Dibarai Mahila Samity, Haflong are jointly organising the first Judima Festival at Dibarai village near Haflong with a two-day programme from January 23, to promote tourism in Dima Hasao district.

The main attraction of the festival is Judima, the Dimasa rice brew. Events like trekking, home stay, angling, cycling and sightseeing are the added attractions of the festival.

Judima is a traditional rice beer brewed by the Dimasas. Although the tradition of brewing rice beer was prevalent among the other tribes of the district like the Zemes and the Rangkhols, but under the influence of Christianity, they have given up this tradition. Dimasas are the followers of Hinduism. The Dimasa mythology claims that the Dimasas are the children of Bangla Raja (Earthquake God) and the great divine bird Arikhidima.
