JACAS calls off 1000-hr strike

DIPHU, Nov 1 � The Joint Action Committee for Autonomous State (JACAS) called off its 1000-hour general strike on the fifth day on Friday. Khorsing Teron, chairman of the JACAS who announced the decision of the organisation, said that they received a favourable response from the Union Government to carry forward the process of discussion.

The introduction of a Bill for the creation of an autonomous State, encompassing the two autonomous hill districts of Assam, in the Winter Session of the Parliament will also be considered by the Government.

A highly-placed government official on condition of anonymity said that the Ministry of Home Affairs has already begun the official process for holding discussions within the second week of November.
