ITANAGAR, Feb 22 - The 48-hour Itanagar Capital Complex shutdown called by a group of local organizations has turned violent on the second day on Friday with the protesters going berserk.
The police personnel had to fire tear gas shells in the air and use water cannons to disperse the mob. The protesters then started stone pelting at many locations in the twin capital towns and damaged several vehicles.
The bandh, which was by and large remained peaceful on Thursday, turned intense today as hundreds of agitators, mostly females marched towards the State Legislative Assembly Secretariat where the House session was in progress, shouting slogans against the State government, particularly Chief Minister Pema Khandu and his Deputy Chowna Mein.
The 48-hour bandh call was given by a conglomerate of 18 organizations protesting the State government�s reported move to grant permanent residential certificates (PRC) to some non-Arunachalees living in Namsai and Changlang districts.
