Ishananda Sharma Phukan passes away

GUWAHATI, Feb 24 � Ishananda Sharma Phukan, a social worker and retired Indian Revenue Service officer, died at the age of 93 years at his Chenikuthi residence last night.

A self-made man he rose to the position of Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax. Actively associated with various social, cultural and political organisations, he attended the World Peace Conference held at Copenhagen, Denmark as a delegate in 1986.

He leaves behind his wife, two sons, three daughters and a host of grandchildren.

Asam Sahitya Sabha, the Assam State Unit of Communist Party of India and several other organisations have condoled Sharma Phukan�s death.
