NEW DELHI, May 31 � India has sought the custody of North-East militants captured in Myanmar.
India�s wish was conveyed to Myanmar�s top leadership during the Prime Minister�s recent visit to the neighbouring country.
Presenting his monthly report, Union Home Minister, P Chidambaram said India�s concerns were two-fold. �Our concerns are two-fold. First, we don�t want any part of Myanmar territory to be used as camps by the insurgent groups. Secondly, if the Government of Myanmar manages to apprehend any of the leaders, we would like them to hand over to India,� he said.
�We have made this request the response is encouraging but we will have to wait and see what action is taken by Myanmar,� said Chidambaram.
As reported, most of the top leaders of anti-talk faction of ULFA besides other militant outfits have shifted base to the neighbouring country after the crackdown in Bangladesh. Commander-in-chief of anti-talk faction of ULFA Paresh Barua himself shuttles between China and Myanmar.
