GUWAHATI, Dec 6 - The All India Tennis Association needs to host more Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) tournaments in order to bring the standard of Indian tennis to the next stage, feels Rohan Bopanna.

While talking on the sidelines of the PSPB tennis tournaments opening ceremony, Bopanna a Davis Cupper and the fourth Indian to win a Grand Slam title, said: The professionals need to play as much ATP tournaments as possible. Without competing in the international circuit against professionals, it not possible to uplift.

India is not producing enough singles players only because we dont get much ATP tournaments. He also lauded CM Sarbananda Sonowal for his dream to make Guwahati a sports capital.

Usually most of the politicians hardly think sincerely for the development of games and sports. But Sonowals gesture is certainly praiseworthy, said Bopanna who clinched his maiden Grand Slam title when he won the French Open mixed doubles final with Canadas Gabriela Dabrowski earlier this year.

On the priority of the PSPB tournament, the IOCL player said that he is taking part in this tournament with a serious note. He expects a tough challenge from teams like ONGC, GAIL, among others.
