Update: 2010-09-15 00:00 GMT

RANGIYA, Feb 12 Independent candidates won four of the 10 wards of the Rangiya Municipal Board elections, the results of which were declared today.

The Independent candidates won from Ward No. 1, 4, 9 and 10, while Congress candidates won from Ward No. 2, 6 and 8. The BJP won two seats from Ward No. 3 and 5, while CPM won a lone seat from Ward No. 7.

The poll figures indicate the possibility of a coalition forming the next Board with the support from either Congress or BJP. Interestingly, some of the Independent candidates originally belonged to the Congress. Even the ex-Chairman of the Board, who was from the Congress, is now an Independent candidate.
