Include Manipuri in Assam civil services exam: Manipur CM

SILCHAR, March 5 - The Assam government must include Manipuri language in the civil services examinations, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said here on Wednesday.

Biren Singh was addressing a large gathering at the two-day World Meetei Convention, 2020, jointly organised by the Pan Meetei Convention and the Assam Manipuri Progressive Front at Lamagram under Sonai constituency in Cachar district.

�There are simmering grievances over Manipuri language not being included in the civil services examination in Assam. I have spoken to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and also discussed the issue with Education Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, and urged their intervention at the earliest,� the Manipur Chief Minister said.

On the issue of the Inner Line Permit system, Biren Singh said there was �no chaos or untoward incident� in Manipur over ILP. Expressing happiness over the World Meetei Convention, the Manipur Chief Minister said there could be a Manipur Guest House in Cachar district soon.

Former Union Minister Kabindra Purakayastha, along with K Rabindra Singh, Deputy Speaker of the Manipur Assembly, Cachar Deputy Commissioner Barnali Sarma and other distinguished personalities attended the inaugural ceremony of the convention.
