Imtiaz wins FIDE rated chess

GUWAHATI, July 9 - Top seed Imtiaz Islam Bora of Tinsukia emerged champion in the�All India Open FIDE Rating Chess Tournament organised by the Sivasagar District Chess Association with support from Sivasagar Girls College Teacher�s Unit at Sivasagar Girls College from July 3 to 7.

A record number of 209 players, including 88 FIDE rated players from across the country participated in the 9-round Swiss league tournament played under classical time control.

A total of Rs 1 lakh was offered as prize money to the top 15 players of the tournament.

The closing ceremony was attended by Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar District Dr S Lakshmanan as chief guest. International Master Atanu Lahiri who is also the joint secretary of All India Chess Federation and N Rajashekera, senior police officer were also present on the occasion. The tournament was conducted by international arbiter Biswajit Bharadwaj as the chief arbiter.

Top 15 position holders: Imtiaz Islam Bora, Trailokya Nanda, Cheniram Pegu, Rakesh Chakravorty, Nihad Islam Hazarika, Neelabh Jyoti Borthakur, Iftikar Alom Mazumdar, Swapnaneel Dowerah, Vaishant Kumar Gangwani, Ravi Kant Tiwari, Bitupon Saika, Rintu Brahma, Madhab Sarma, Abhash Roimya Saikia, Mridumoloy Das.
