Imphal girls win soccer crown

JORHAT, Jan 7 � Imphal East District Football Association, Manipur emerged champions in the maiden edition of the North East India Invitation Prize-money Football Championship.

In the final played at the Kalyani playground, near here today, the Manipuri girls defeated IGS Academy of Nagaland by 2-0 goals before a capacity crowd. After a barren first session Kashmina scored both the goals in the second half. The tournament was organised by Ranjit Club under the aegis of the Assam Football Association. The champion team became richer by Rs 50,000 while the runners up team received Rs 30,000. MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasha and MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi were present in the closing function as guests.
