Impasse at Tiwa council over vacant CEMs post

Update: 2010-09-15 00:00 GMT

MORIGAON, June 16 - The impasse at the Tiwa Autonomous Council due to the vacant post of the Chief Executive Member (CEM) is still on. It may be mentioned here that the earlier CEM of the TAC, Rama Kanta Deori, was elected to the Assam Legislative Assembly from Morigaon LAC on May 19.

In the TAC, the Congress has 14 members, Tiwa Jatiya Oikya Mancha has 10, BJP has three members and the AGP has two. Following Deoris resignation, two aspirants from the Tiwa Jatiya Oikya Mancha are in the race for the CEMs post. As such, political lobbying has been going on in the TAC since the last month.

Though the Morigaon district administration has fixed June 21 to elect the CEM of the TAC as per the instruction of the Additional Secretary of the WPT&BC, Dispur, the general meeting of the TAC may be postponed. According to sources, the two aspirants from the Tiwa Jatiya Oikya Mancha Khagen Bordoloi, chairman, and Paban Manta, EM are creating a row in the party circles, making the selection process for the CEMs post a little difficult.

The sources expressed the possibility of a vertical split within the Tiwa Jatiya Oikya Manch due to the intense lobbying by both the leaders.
