Illegal timber seized in Manipur

IMPHAL, Nov 18 - In an operation following a tip-off, Assam Rifles troops on Tuesday intercepted two trucks at a check post near Koshu village on the NH-102A and seized smuggled timber from them.

The truck drivers confessed that the wood was smuggled from Myanmar.

The illegal timber has been assessed to be worth Rs 38 lakh. Both the drivers, their vehicles and the timber were later handed over to the police, the PRO of Assam Rifles (South) stated in a press release today.
