Illegal saw mills destroyed in Garo Hills

TURA, Aug 18 - In a major crackdown against illegal timber trade in West Garo Hills (WGH), a joint task force comprising Forest, police and district administration officials have dismantled several illegal saw mills in the plain belt of the district.

The raid was conducted on Thursday in Masangpani, Gomaijhora, Belbari and Namabila villages.

An estimated 100 illegal saw mills are said to be operational mostly around Chibinang and Tikrikilla area. �It was a huge success as we were able to shut down eight saw mills in the area and seized machines, tools, vehicles, timber logs and sawn timber from the saw mills,� said a release by the Forest team.
