Illegal hemp crops destroyed in Garo Hills

TURA, Dec 13 - A joint task force comprising Border Security Force (BSF), personnel from the district administration and Meghalaya police today destroyed a huge amount of illegally cultivated hemp in South West Garo Hills.

The destruction is the second such instance in the past two months after BSF personnel found the crop being grown in the area near Kuligaon under Kalaichapara police station in the district.

More than 32 patches of the crop which included over 2,800 plants were burnt during the operation. BSF sources stated that the hemp was being grown to be illegally exported to Bangladesh.
