ICMR Award for two State medical scientists

DIBRUGARH, Nov 12 � Two scientists from Assam have received the prestigious ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research) Award for their outstanding contribution to the field of biomedical research. Renowned medical scientist Dr Jagadish Mahanta, Director of Regional Medical Research Centre, Dibrugarh, has received this award for 2007 for his outstanding epidemiological research in communicable and non-communicable diseases.

Another scientist of the Centre, Dr Gajendra Kumar Medhi has received the award for 2008 in recognition of his significant contribution to understanding the disease pattern of the tea garden population.

The awards have been conferred on them by Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad at a function held in New Delhi on November 8. The ICMR confers the ICMR Award every year to medical scientists for outstanding contribution to the field of biomedical research.
