DHEMAJI, Feb 23 � Sensation prevails at Dhakuakhana following the killing of a housewife by an intoxicated person yesterday.
One Naba Kumar Chutia, an inhabitant of the Dulia Boruah village under the Dhakuakhana Police Station, was smoking ganja in the residence of one Rudra Koch of the same village last afternoon.
Sometime later, Gunawati Chutia, wife of one Dilip Chutia of the same village, arrived at the house. A highly intoxicated Naba then picked up an argument with Gunawati over a trivial matter, and, after a while, got so infuriated that he hacked her with a dao.
In a critical condition, Gunawati was immediately rushed to the Dhakuakhana Civil Hospital, but she was declared brought dead there.
The people of the village, greatly shaken by the incident, urged the authorities to hand severe punishment to the culprit. The Dhakuakhana police has since put Naba Chutia behind bars.
