Hojai to host jr national hockey

HOJAI, Dec 26 - The 8th National Sub Junior Hockey Championship (Men) will be held here from January 5.

Disclosing this in a press conference here today, Kamal Dutta, secretary, Hojai District Sports Association said, �We are grateful to Hockey India for allotting this important national level tournament to Hojai and we are committed to host the championship in a befitting manner. The championship will be held from January 5 to 14�.

Altogether 21 States will be vying for the title in the meet. Host Assam team is already in Hojai while other teams will start arriving here from January 1.

Tapan Das, secretary, Assam Hockey, who is also the treasurer of Hockey India said, �Organising this tournament in Hojai, was only possible due to the efforts of our Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Hojai is ready to host this mega event and all works will be completed by December 30. The championship will be played in two venue � Stadium ground and Bihutoli field,� Das added.

The Chief Minister will inaugurate the championship on January 5 at 1 pm in presence of State Railway Minister Rajen Gohain and other guests.

Animesh Talukdar, ADC Hojai and the Chairman of Reception Committee said, �All the arrangements for communication, accommodation, security have been completed. We urge each and every citizen of Hojai to support in this mega event.�
