Himanta visits ex-Speaker�s residence

SIVASAGAR, Feb 28 - Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, State Minister of PWD, Health and Education, today visited the residence of former Speaker Pronob Gogoi at Red Cross Road, Sivasagar. Gogoi had passed away recently. He expressed his condolences to the bereaved family members and recollected his long association with Gogoi in the last two decades. H e termed Pronob Gogoi as a bright political personality Assam has ever produced who had immense love for Assam and its people.

Sameer Gogoi, son of Pronob Gogoi, received the Minister at their residence and several organisations and BJP workers felicitated him.

Later talking to the media, Dr Sarma said that BJP will work closely in association with other partners of NDA in nominating the candidates for the forthcoming Rajya Sabha elections. Replying to a question, the NEDA president said that the recent violence and the election results in Delhi will have only have a marginal impact on the Assam elections and not much. The Minister also said that a medical college at Sonari will vastly improve medical facilities in the undivided Sivasagar district.

On teachers serving without pay for years in the district, the Minister said that the government has been trying to work out a solution to the problems of the teachers.
