Hike in fares of commercial vehicles likely in Barak Valley

SILCHAR, April 12 - A hike in the fares of commercial vehicles in south Assam is on the cards. This was hinted by the Barak Valley Transport Owners� Coordination Committee�on Wednesday.�

Kishore Bhattacharjee, secretary of the coordination committee, said, �At a time when prices of allied products including lubricants and spare parts are shooting up, we have no option but to press for a hike in the prices of the commercial vehicles. We have set a deadline till April 30 before the government to resolve the demands. But so far there has been no reply from the government.�����

Meanwhile, Abdul Ahad, general secretary of the Truck Owners� Association, said that a demand has been placed to reopen the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Transport which was opened here in 2013 but in a recent move, the government had shifted the office from Barak Valley.
