Highest single-day spike in Tripura cases

AGARTALA, July 4 - Tripura has witnessed the highest single-day spike in COVID-19 cases with 93 more people testing positive. This has taken the State�s tally of positive cases to 1,534. The total active cases stand at 324.

In a Facebook post last night, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said: �A total of 93 persons were tested Covid-19 positive out of 1325 samples tested. Alert.� Of the total 93 positive cases, the highest number (24) was reported from Dhalai, followed by West, Gomati, North and Sepahijala districts with 17, 15, 13 and nine cases respectively.

Of the total 93 cases, 49 were air travellers, 28 had travel history and 16 had come in contact with positive cases.

Amid the spurt in the COVID-19 cases, the Tripura administration is gearing up to impose a lockdown on July 5.

Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath told media persons that the COVID-19 situation is under control in the State in spite of the new cases. �We are taking all possible measures to prevent the spread of the virus. There will be a complete lockdown in the State tomorrow and more stringent measures are proposed to stop the transmission,� he said.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb today launched a new project to boost the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic. Under the Mukhyamantri Corona Pratirodh Abhiyan, the Government will distribute fruits and juice to the people every Saturday. Urban local bodies will distribute Vitamin C-enriched pineapples and lemons, which are abundantly available in the State.
