GUWAHATI, Dec 17 - The Gauhati High Court, after hearing a petition filed by the Speaker of the Arunachal Pradesh Assembly, today kept in abeyance the impugned decisions of the Assembly passed yesterday.

The writ petition was filed challenging the notification dated 9/12/2015 issued by the Governor preponing the Assembly session to December 16 from January 14, 2016, the notification issued by the Deputy Speaker restoring the suspended 14 MLAs, the order of the Deputy Speaker to hold the session at a new venue and the decision of the session dated 16/12/2015.

The petitioners contention was that the exercise undertaken by the Governor to prepone the session to December 16 was in violation of Articles 174 and 175 of the Constitution.

Justice Hrishikesh Roy, after hearing the case, issued a notice and in the interim kept in abeyance the impugned decisions of the Assembly passed during the session yesterday and fixed the case on February 1, 2016. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal appeared for the petitioner.
