GUWAHATI, Jan 13 - The Gauhati High Court, after hearing a public interest litigation, has directed the State Government to maintain status quo on construction activities around the Dighalipukhuri area.

The PIL was filed by prominent citizen Dinesh Baishya and others against the ongoing construction of a war memorial on the northern bank of Dighalipukhuri. It was contended that the construction of the war memorial would destroy the heritage of the tank.

The vacation bench of the Gauhati High Court, after hearing the petition on Tuesday, directed the State respondents to maintain status quo on the construction and posted the case for listing after the reopening of the court.
