GUWAHATI, Sept 27 - As a part of the year-long celebrations of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and as a prelude to the Non-violence Day to be celebrated on October 2, Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi on Friday paid a visit to the Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust at the Kasturba Ashram in the city.
He spent some time at the ashram at Sarania and interacted with some of the members. Talking to them, Prof Mukhi said one should try to follow the ideals and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi. Expressing happiness on visiting the ashram, where Gandhi himself stayed for three days, he also acknowledged the members of the ashram for maintaining its sanctity.
Prof Mukhi spoke on Gandhi�s principle of non-violence and said he had made non-violence the centrifugal force for all his activities � social, economic and political. Gandhi believed that non-violence has universal applicability and can be used for resolving any form of dispute or conflict. The Governor said non-violence was more effective than any other weapon, and urged the present generation to imbibe the philosophies and ideals of Gandhi.
Nayan Bhandari Sharma, trustee of the Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust, eminent centenarian Gandhian Shakuntala Choudhary and other followers of Gandhian philosophy were present on the occasion. Prof Mukhi also paid floral tributes at a bust of Mahatma Gandhi.
